FBC coaches boxers of all ages and skill levels, and has produced boxers that not only win championships, but provide a positive influence in the greater Fairbanks community. Our boxers have competed all over Alaska and the United States, and have established a reputation as a tough and skillful team whereever they have traveled.

Fairbanks Boxing Club is coached by Chris Holm, who himself started at the gym under Coach Bill Fairbanks. Holm has been head coach since 2003. He has competed at the state, regional, national and international level, twice taking second place at Tacoma Golden Gloves at two weight classes and a quarterfinalist at the 2005 Ringside World Championships.

Fairbanks Boxing Club takes the position that anyone can be a champion, if they can listen and try to the very best of their ability. “Kids” of all ages from 8 to 58 currently train at the facility, with a positive learning enviornment that breeds not only champions, but quality individuals. Practice is from 5:30pm-8:00pm at 625 8th Avenue in Downtown. Anyone with a desire to learn to box and become a better individual is welcome to visit and tryout.

Fairbanks MMA started in July 2007 at the JP Jones Community Center with just three members and no equipment whatsoever. Today, Fairbanks MMA is a 1,200 sq ft facility offering a wide variety classes for Mixed Martial Arts (Cage Fighting), overall fitness and wellness for everyone. We have a wide variety of members, from Pro-fighters to everyday people simply trying to get in better shape. We also offer an on-site manager for fighters wishing to pursue a career in MMA. We are about sharing knowledge and learning to be the best Mixed Martial artists we can be.

Instruction in Gi, and no gi grappling, as well as MMA is available. There is currently a kids MMA class offered on Sundays 1-3 pm, though we are currently planning on starting a kids BJJ class as well. Gi training is not required (unless you want to advance in BJJ belt rank), though it is recommended.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu is an extraordinarily effective combat art, but it is our mission to make this self defense system available to all, including those who may not be naturally inclined towards martial arts. It is, after all, those not so gifted or inclined that may benefit the most from learning and training the principals of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Our academy is focused on all levels of competency, with special attention offered to the beginner. It is our goal to provide the beginning student with the solid foundation upon which their development in Jiu Jitsu will be built.

The focus of our academy on building the student’s understanding of Jiu Jitsu has resulted in our students capturing gold, silver and bronze medals at some of the most prestigious Jiu Jitsu tournaments in the world, including the U.S. Open, the Pan Americans, Worlds, Naga, the New York Open, the Gracie United, and the U.S. Nationals, among others. Our MMA program has produced many champions and our academy currently displays many of the title belts held in the state of Alaska, as well as belts from competitions elsewhere.

We are proud of our winning record, but even more important to us and our mission is the personal growth and character development that accompanies training Gracie Jiu Jitsu. The hard work, the struggle to master a new skill, the camaraderie built between training partners, the respect gained towards others, the humility and calm self-assurance gained through training….these are the true measures of a student’s progress.
