Francis Farley, owner, is a local Santa Cruz icon has opened up his personal gym to the public, so he can share his knowledge and experiences of the sport of kickboxing and martial arts. Francis Farley has had an incredible career in Kickboxing. His story begins as a young boy with a brother that has just returned from a tour in Vietnam and suggests Karate as an outlet for his shy and slightly timid younger brother. A passion for martial art athletes in Northern California.

As a young man Francis was challenged to try Kickboxing a colleague, which turned out to be the start to something much larger. With his passion for Martial Arts and fitness Francis became the Middle Weight California State Amateur Kickboxing Champion and soon after decided to turn Pro. He amazingly began an incredible professional career winning the North Middleweight American Title in June of 1989 and the ISKA World Championship in May of 1993. He held the World Championship Title for 5 years, with a final professional record of 27-2, 17 KO’s. Francis’ had reputation of having power and savvy in the ring but most importantly he was a gentlemen’s fighter, always fighting with respect for the sport and his competitors. Due in part to this many of his fights can still be seen today on ESPN2.

Upon his departure from the limelight of the World Championship Stage his passion still lived on. So came his decision to create a place where his passion for the sport and all around fitness could go on. This is also an an arena where he is able to share the skills he has acquired with others. So he has created Farley’s Kickboxing Academy in hopes that others will share the same passion and commitment for life and sports at his gym. Come workout with the Champ!

Santa Cruz Muay Thai Academy has been developed over 20 years of training and exploration of various forms of martial arts. This gym is geared toward the person who wants to get and stay in shape while learning effective Muay Thai and Kickboxing skills. This is not just a cardio kickboxing class. Our emphasis is to learn how to defend ourselves in a reality based self-defense situation or prepare for a competition. While this is true, our class environment is one of Humor, Respect, Hard Work and over all non-violence.

Santa Cruz Muay Thai Academy holds a fundamental belief in non-violence. The art of non-violence through martial arts comes from a deep seated tradition in which a highly trained person does not need to prove his or her toughness by engaging in petty or ego inflamed fights. However, one learns the techniques and knowledge to protect themselves if necessary. This is the fundamental belief of a true Martial artist.

Chief Instructor Jason Murphy has trained extensively in many forms of Martial arts such as: Muay Thai, American Kick Boxing, Pankration, Kali, Pentak Silat, Eskrima, Qi Gong, Ashtonga Warrior Yoga and Shorin Ryu Karate. Jason has been studying martial arts for the last 20 years. He has trained in Thailand at the well respected Lanna Muay Thai training camp in Chaing Mai, Thailand as well as Sor. Vorapin Muay Thai in Bangkok. Jason also traveled throughout Southeast Asia studying different forms of martial arts. Jason has competed in Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Submission fighting tournaments in the United States and Thailand.

Get fit while learning the skills of boxing at Pacific Coast Boxing, located in the American Tin Cannery in Pacific Grove near Monterey, California. An actual boxing routine consists of training to timed rounds of two or three minutes with one minute rests in between rounds. If you have observed the physical condition of boxers and kickboxers and would like to achieve this same level of conditioning and discipline for yourself, then this may be the work out for you. This type of training will improve every physical capacity (strength, power, coordination, aerobic & anaerobic fitness & endurance).

You will shed excess weight due to the amount of calories burned during this workout (up to 1,200), tone & condition, increase heart health & strength, relieve stress, increase self-esteem and self-confidence and discover that you are actually capable of achieving a full upper & lower body workout from punching & kicking and have fun too. A trainer is always present to provide direction and motivation.

Our goal is to help you with your goal.
