Opened in January 2005 under Master Relson Gracie brown belt Kaleo Auwae, Relson Gracie – Team Papakolea Jiu-Jitsu has produced multiple CHAMPIONS under Kaleo’s teachings in the kids and adult divisions, ranks and weight classes. Kaleo Auwae has been training under Master Relson Gracie since 1994 in Hawaii and during the early days and birth of the UFC. Kaleo is a CHAMPION himself, holding the most recent title in September 2010 as NAGA Champion.

All levels and aspects of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu are taught here. Self-Defense being the number aspect. Sport/Competion and MMA. From beginner to advance levels. From the hobbiest, health and fitness practioner, to the extreme athelte. All are welcome and treated with open arms. We are like family! No matter what age or gender. Freestyle Martial Arts Academy at the DOJO in Kailua-Kona is the only school to have participated (so far) in this exceptional program from West Hawaii and only one of three schools in all of the State of Hawaii. Our unique curriculum is rooted in personal and character development, developmental psychology, the use of non-violence to resolve conflicts (verbal boundary skills and anger management training), physical fitness training, nutrition awareness, goal oriented life success skills, project-based leadership training, and community service.

At The DOJO, we teach Freestyle Martial Arts which is a modern blend of: American Karate (Western Boxing, Kickboxing, and traditional forms), Kali (Filipino Martial Arts), Grappling, and Real Life Self-Defense. Hawaii Freestyle Martial Arts is a unique martial arts education concept: We teach more than punching and kicking…our curriculum is based upon what we have learned from our instructor, Tom Callos, and in our year-long Ultimate Black Belt Test experience (a revolutionary test designed by Tom Callos).

If you have ever considered learning Gracie Jiu-jitsu, but just could not find a school or club with a flexible enough training schedule… Days/Nights…WE TRAIN ALL THE TIME! Here, at Island Jiu-jitsu on Oahu, we have private and/or group classes available (traditional gi, no-gi,
submission wrestling). Instructor/Coach Jason Vigil, is a Gracie Jiu-jitsu brown belt under Jason Izaguirre (Royler Gracie black belt). Having trained all over with many different black belts over the past 7 years, and coming from a wrestling background, Jason Vigil has developed a technique-based tournament style approach.

We don’t discriminate..boys, girls, men, and women…we have all types training here in Hawaii Kai at Island Jiu-jitsu! In addition to our Portlock location (where we have beginner and advanced classes on Fridays)…we are yet again FLEXIBLE due to our over 250 square feet of MOBILE MAT SPACE!!! At New Life Jiu-Jitsu Academy on the Big Island of Hawaii, our students are regular people who want to be challenged, be technical & learn to defend themselves on the ground. Classes are taught in a fun very safe, controlled environment where injury is kept to a minimum. New Life Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a proud affiliate of Team Robson Moura/Nova União Jiu-Jitsu.

We realize most people have jobs so safety is the #1 priority. While we do no-Gi, we do the majority of classes using the Gi /Kimono to be technical, for professionalism, hygiene, & for the greater amount of techniques that can be applied and used.

Since 1999, Sera’s Kajukenbo has been providing instruction in the martial arts in the Kahului, Hawaii area. Our school believes our programs will enrich Maui through its unique way of building positive citizens with discipline, self-esteem, confidence, and ethics. The positive changes in students are tremendous and are priceless to both the student as well as the people in their lives. At Sera’s, learn the Original Mixed Martial Art system known as Kajukenbo. This system combines techniques from Korean Karate, Judo/Jujitsu, Chinese Kenpo, and Chinese Boxing. Submission Grappling class and Womens’ Self-Defense also available.

Kajukenbo Classes:

Kids Class – This structured class is for children ages 5 to 12. Students learn how to block, strike with both arms and legs and apply it to forms, self defense sets, and sparring. Students gain self-discipline, respect, and self-confidence through the training classes. Having the Black Belt Attitude and demonstrating Black Belt Excellence are character traits that are stressed to the students.

Teens/Adults Class – This structured class is for teens and adults ages 13 and up. Students learn how to block, strike with both arms and legs, and grapple. Students apply the techniques to forms, self defense sets against punch attacks, grab attacks, and weapons attacks, and MMA sparring.

Submission Grappling Class – This class is for teens and adults and focuses on grappling techniques both standing and on the ground. Techniques will be taught from the arts of Brazilian Jiujitsu, Judo, Sambo, and Greco Roman and Freestyle Wrestling.

Women’s Self Defense Course – This 16-hour course is offered twice a year and is open to teen girls and women of all ages. Students will learn how to block, strike with both arms and legs, and grapple and apply these techniques in common self-defense situations experienced by women. Students will gain a good awareness and self confidence in their ability to defend themselves and is a good introduction into continuing in the training of martial arts.

Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors. Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students. Sigung Trent Sera (6th degree Black Belt) is the Head Instructor/Owner of the school and teaches all of the classes.

Carlos Wegner is the Boxing and Kickboxing trainer at Sports Club Kahana, with Dimitri Offergeld as the instructor for Jiu-Jitsu and Norman Tran training in Muay Thai. We also have a black belt KAJUKENBO Program. Carlos Wegner, the main trainer, has over 30 years experience in Martial Arts, Boxing, Kickboxing and Weight Training, and has competed in both Kickboxing and Boxing tournaments. Carlos is certified by N.E.S.T.A. as a strength and conditioning trainer.

MMA Built was also proud to be the team involved with MTV’s “Living Lahaina”, with MMA Fighter Sean Souza competing on the show.
