At Topeka Jiu-Jitsu, we are dedicated to helping individuals to achieve their goals in self defense, fitness, and competition. For individuals that are interested in competition for either Jiu-Jitsu or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), we have very strict stipulations that include continuous attendance and improvement; these elements will ensure the student’s safety in combat as well as help the instructors to effectively train the individual properly. We also have a very strict honor code that all students must obey in order to be a part of the facility; these include honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, and the desire to learn without having an ego. Head Instructor Marc Monaco has trained in the discipline of Jiu-Jitsu since 2004. He holds a 2nd Degree Black Belt in American Jiu-Jitsu under Randy Pace and a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Royler Gracie Black Belt, Mike Mrkulic. Marc is a member of the American Federation of Jujitsu, as well as a Certified Instructor through the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Vale Tudo Association. Impressively, he has competed and medaled in many local and nationally ranked Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and submission grappling events, most notably the Gracie Worlds, Grapplers Quest, the Best of the Best ProAms, the NAGA Championships, and the Arnolds Grappling Championships. Marc was a Silver medalist for the First Brigade Boxing Team in 1999, a feat he accomplished while enlisted in the U.S. Army for four active years. He is also a fitness trainer certified through the International Sports Sciences Association (I.S.S.A.) and a former competitive amateur bodybuilder in both the Midwest and on the East Coast; he holds various training certifications including Specialist in Martial Arts Conditioning, Specialist in Sports Conditioning, Specialist in Performance Nutrition, and Kicks with Kids Martial Arts for Young Children, among many others. Marc has both organized and taught self-defense and Jiu-Jitsu seminars and workshops to the US National Guard, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Budocamp, and various individuals of different ages and gender. His patience, generosity, attention to detail, and continued drive to master techniques has enabled him to gain success both on and off the mats; his dedication to students has created multiple medalists and champions.

We have began the building process for the first Rings and Cages Training Center. Our goal is to be finished and open in September or October of 2010.

Rings and Cages is a company offering rings and cages at affordable prices. The goal is to get you your ring or cage and save you money doing it. We have been open since December 2006 and have had the priviledge of building rings and cages for gyms and promotions worldwide.

I am the owner “The Good Rev” Chad Sullivan and I have been a Pro Wrestler since 1995 and a Pro MMA fighter since 1999. In that time I have dealt with many different ring styles and cage styles. I have set up, taken down, transported, owned numerous rings etc… I found what worked with rings and cages and what didn’t work. I found designs that I liked but that I thought needed to be tweaked a bit to be either “better” or longer lasting.

As any other pro wrestler out there could tell you some rings are good bumpin’ rings and some you wished you had never stepped into because they were so stiff you hurt for a week. Over the years I found what I liked in a ring and a cage. I listened to other Pro Wrestlers, Promoters, MMA fighters to find out what they liked and realized, everyone likes something different in a ring. Some like a nicer bump, some like a stiff ring, some just like certain padding or even just the way round poles look vs. square poles.

The point is, I want to work with you to find out your needs and to know exactly what it is you are looking for. My goal is to give you just that and save you quite a bit of money in the process and STILL give you a quality product. There may be a few things I may not be able to do. If I cannot do what you want, I’ll tell you that and I’ll send you to the person I know that can help you.

Judo, hapkido, and taekwondo are the main styles within our combat and self-defense system. As an adult member you will be eligible to attend our Kickboxing, and RevDefense classes as well as our traditional classes. You will also have access to our cardio and strength gym at no extra cost.

Our goal is to properly train you in the real art of Muay Thai. You will see and feel the difference…as many others have already. We train you as a fighter…whether you want to fight or not. Muay Thai is a combat art and in order to teach it to you properly, we train you as a fighter. We also coach people from all different walks of life. From policeman, teachers, doctors, lawyers, professional atheletes, and the average person that just wants to train and feel good about themselves. Not only will you learn practical self defense, but you’ll get in the best shape of your life at Kansas City’s Premier Muay Thai Gym!

Recently Kru Shawn recieved his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and joined forces with the prestigious BJJ Revolution team. Kru Shawn became a personal student of Derrick Breaux who runs Blacklist BJJ in Lousiana. BJJ Revolution is ran by Julio Fernandez and Rodrigo Medertios, who were both under the late BJJ master Carlson Gracie.

We also have a number of fighters who can maintain any speed with immaculate control. This enables beginners to learn without a fear of being hurt, gives them confidence which speeds up the learning process. We have many students that are not interested in the ring fighting.

This class is unlike full-contact boxing, kickboxing or today’s MMA training. Our main goal is to provide a controlled, safe, learning environment without the personal injury encountered due to full-contact training. We are focused on getting in shape in a non-competitive way, while still maintaining an intense MMA training and body weight workout.

In one week of intense training, students can expect to train using a real-world mix of styles to become effective in the three phases of combat: standup, takedown and ground. Standup: using various forms of boxing, kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do techniques to improve footwork, elbowing, kicking, kneeing and punching. Takedown: using Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling to improve clinching, takedowns, joint locking and striking. Ground: using Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Wrestling to improve submission holds, and maintain ground control.

This class will help men achieve improved physical fitness as well as teach valuable striking and grappling skills.

PMA Lawrence currently offers instruction in Kickboxing, Krav Maga, Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Master Johnson was trained under one of only a handful of Grandmasters in the United States teaching Tae Kwon Do, Grandmaster Choon Lee. Master Lee is a 9th Dan Grandmaster who came to the United States in the 1960’s. Master Lee began the organization called American Korean Tae Kwon Do Association (AKTA) that is still going strong today. The parent school in Shawnee, Kansas called Choon Lee’s Academy of Tae Kwon Do is where Master Johnson began training in the 1970’s. He was one of Grandmaster Lee’s first students and 30 years later is proud to carry on their proud tradition.
