Our facility was the first in the Northern New Jersey area to offer elite muay thai kickboxing and grappling instruction with state of the art matting for safety and provide a full sized Boxing Ring with Profession Heavy Bags and Training equipment. It is no wonder that students have come to us from Bergenfield, Dumont, Edgewater, Emerson, Englewood, Fort Lee, Hackensack, Leonia, New Milford, Oradell, Palisades Park, Paramus, Ridgewood, Tenafly, and Westwood.

Rob Constance is a United States Marine Corps veteran and former New York City police officer began his formal training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with the Gracie family. He has been awarded titles in both Grappler’s Quest and Naga in addition to winning Florida State’s Heavy Weight Blue Belt Division. Rob has also participated in numerous Superfights, the New York City Golden Gloves, New York State Golden Gloves, and New York City Metros. Competing in the mixed martial arts for over a decade, he is also an Abu-Dhabi trials veteran. After nine years on the police force, Rob has returned as an educator, directing and teaching seminars in defensive tactic training at the New York City Police Academy. He also travels to other Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Academies nationwide to teach seminars. Rob also developed a self-defense seminar for women incorporating the fundamentals of BJJ.

As a result of extensive training and study with such prestigious names as Renzo, Ralph, Ryan, Rolles, and Igor Gracie, Rob was presented with his black belt under Renzo Gracie and now brings his advanced techniques and effective teaching styles to Renzo Gracie Academy Hoboken.

Our new students engage in a learning journey beginning with the origins of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and get in touch with this martial art developed by the Gracie Family. It is known to be the most effective self-defense system in the world. All new students must undergo an evaluation by a black belt professor who will recommend the program that best suits the student. Your progress is a direct consequence of your efforts. Belts and stripes are earned as a result of your progress, which is closely followed by the professors.

Our founder, Ron Standridge, has nearly 50 years of professional experience guiding youth/high school athletes along the road. A former state champ, Div I college wrestler, and coach of multiple All American and National Champions, Ron has created a program focused on maximum achievement for each student through work ethic, skills development, persistence, courage, enthusiasm, and confidence.

At the Standridge Academy we offer small group sessions, that involve sparing with other wrestlers, working one on one with our instructors, as well as learning new techniqies, incorperated with life lessons and real life expierences. Over the course of these sessions you will become a better wrestler.

We are champions, achievers, winners that are brought together to become great. It may be excelling through wrestling, learning valuable lessons in life, or reaching our physical potential. We encourage wrestlers to join us, with or without expierence so we can learn and grow together. Being a champ is great, but becoming a champion is an achievement that yields dividends long after the head gear have been hung up for good. When your child is serious about this sport, it is time to come to Standridge.

Head instructor Chris Civello, is a currently BJJ purple belt under George Sernack, Renzo Gracie Black Belt. Chris holds several medals from NAGA, Grapplers Quest, and the Renzo Gracie Invitational.

The Evolution Of The Martial Arts The Martial Arts have evolved significantly over the last 100 years. More so than in any other time in the history of man kind. Partly, because as technology advances and the world becomes smaller, different forms of the martial arts have been tested and shared throughout the world. And, as evolution dictates, only the strong survive. So in the martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, Muay Thai Kickboxing and Boxing have survived and remain dominant. Humans regarded “flight” as impossible just 100 years ago, but evolution took it’s course and comparable to the advances in the automobile and the development in aircraft, the martial arts have a similar story. The science of hand to hand combat and martial arts runs very much parallel to the advancement in human technology.

So, in a nut shell, we teach the latest and greatest in the martial arts today! It is never too late to start learning the martial arts. It is perfect for men and women in their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and up! Our training environment is friendly and motivating so you can learn at your own pace.
