Sensei Jose Montes has been training in martial arts for almost 35 years. He first started training at the age of five, at his father’s school in Puerto Rico. A national delegate and a Judo coach for the 1976 Olympic team, his father was a true martial arts enthusiast, instilling Sensei Montes with the passion and appreciation he has today for the martial arts. By the age of eight, Sensei Montes was the Caribbean Judo Champion. Throughout his years of training he has competed in various Grappling and Challenge of Champion tournaments. He was also a Sectional and District champion in wrestling as well as a regional qualifier in PA. Sensei Montes has also earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Kutztown University in Business.

Sensei Montes’ experience in various styles of martial arts helped him see the quality and benefits of training with Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts. Beginning his instructor career in the late 90’s, he says TSMMA is, “The one-stop shop for me as a martial artist and as an instructor.” The knowledge he gained from mixed martial arts allows him to help his students understand what their options are in each and every position just as they may find themselves in during a real life self-defense situation.

Sensei Montes has also been featured in the Times Herald Record and the Photo News highlighting his Bully prevention, Woman safe, and Child Safe seminars which he holds regularly in his school and the surrounding community. Sensei Montes has taught many instructors from the Westpoint Military Academy, as well as the many local Police Officers. The discipline with which Sensei Montes approaches his craft is an amazing motivation for his students, not only with adults, but children as well. His unique style of teaching and attention to details builds confidence in every child. He instills the meaning of a “non-quitting” spirit in them, building their own sense of self discipline.

Stewart is a Rockaway Beach native, and a devoted teacher, proud to carry on the Gracie tradition, sharing his knowledge, passion and experience in jiu-jitsu with others. Stewart also trains at the legendary Renzo Gracie Academy in Midtown Manhattan, where he is a brown belt under Masters Renzo Gracie and John Danaher.

Omar  does not simply lead the “Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle”, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu defines him. For the past decade, Omar has dedicated his life to learning the gentle art, as well as how to teach it effectively and in a way that encompasses the needs of all different types of students. Throughout Omar’s own progression up the BJJ ranks, he became known amongst teammates as a submission specialist, or someone who focuses on finishing matches, rather than winning on points. Partnered with his masterful mind, he was soon able to develop a one-of-a-kind system that allows his students to progress in a manner that is light years faster than everyone else, and the results have shown. Students of the Renzo Gracie Rockland Jiu-Jitsu Academy consistently come out as Champions in the BJJ competition circuit, a testament of Omar’s teachings.

Sensei Nardu Debrah is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the legendary Renzo Gracie. He is a professional Mixed Martial Arts competitor and former Ring of Combat champion. He is also a Full Instructor in Universal Defense System under Sifu Ralph Mitchell. He holds victories in the World Escrima Kali and Arnis Federation as well as Bakbakan International. He also holds numerous wins in the North American Grappling Association, Grapplers Quest and the U.S. Chinese Kuoshu Federation. He is trained in Northern & Southern Kung Fu/ Wu Shu & Tai Chi and has studied extensively the Concepts of Jeet Kune Do under Sifu Ralph Mitchell. Trained in Muay Thai, La Boxe Francaise Savate, Doce Pares, Kali / Arnis, Fencing, Iaido, Western Boxing, Judo and Southern Mantis. He is currently an active competitor / instructor and continues to teach and train Martial professionals. He has had the opportunity to learn from such experts as Sifu Ralph Mitchell, Rodrigo Gracie, Matt Serra, John Danaher, Renzo Gracie and Savoca Sensei of the Tendokan.

Head Instructor, Professor Doug Pelinkovic is a life-long martial artist, and holds a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under world renowned Master Renzo Gracie and Professor John Danaher. During his nine years at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City, he has trained with and studied under some of the highest authorities in the sport, members of the Gracie family, and several mixed martial arts fighters and champions. Doug is also a Black Belt in Shotokan Karate under renowned instructor Shihan Kai Leung. Since earning his Black Belt, Professor Pelinkovic has continued his training with Sensei Adel Elbehiry. A 3rd degree Black Belt, Professor Pelinkovic is a 3-time USA National Team Member, a 4-time national champion, and a multiple-time state and regional champion.
