Head Instructor Arthur Ruff is originally from Brazil, has been training in the martial arts since he was five years old, starting with the art of Judo. He trained in Judo for over ten years under Oswaldo Simoes, the first Brazilian to receive a gold medal at the Judo World University Championships. During that time Arthur won numerous competitions that include the Brazilian National and State Judo Championships for the Junior division.

Our Director of Training, Shawn Chitwood, was among the first Americans to train in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under the famous Gracie Family. He began his training with the Gracie’s in 1993 before the first UFC and before they were a household name under Relson Gracie, Royce’s brother and trainer for the UFC. In 1998, Shawn met and trained with Saulo Ribeiro, a Royler Gracie Black Belt and the most decorated Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitor ever. According to Saulo, “Shawn has the most technical understanding of jiu-jitsu and is the most technical instructor of jiu-jitsu in the United States”. Mr. Chitwood still continues to travel to Brazil and train with the Gracie family. Team Chitwood are proud to form a strong flank of the Relson Gracie Association.

SNMT is a traditional school that teaches Muay Thai in a way that goes beyond the normal “eight weapons” that include legs, knees, punches, and elbows.  Our school teaches and refines those eight weapons, but enhances them by focusing on the ninth weapon- the mind.  We draw our strength and confidence from deep within our heart.  An hour at SNMT is a workout for the body and mind.  Students who study often find an unexpected benefit that goes beyond dropping a few pounds or getting a good cardio workout.  They find confidence and a sense of peace that can be applied to every part of their lives.
