Ronny Lis is a professional MMA fighter and Jiu-Jitsu second-degree black belt who has nearly a decade of teaching experience. He has studied Brazilian jiu-jitsu for more than 16 years, beginning his training with Master Instructor Declecio Paulo in 1995. Ronny is certified by Master Paulo and was awarded his black belt in 2005. A native of Brasilia, Brazil, Ronny successfully operated five jiu-jitsu academies before moving to the United States in 2009. He teaches students from ages 6 to 60, and at all levels of interest and experience in martial arts.Ronny is the progeny of an impressive Brazilian martial arts tradition: He traces his lineage directly to Mitsuyo Maeda, one of the pioneers who introduced jiu-jitsu to Brazil and gained repute as an instructor to the Gracie family.

Alfred Thompkins, Black Belt and Head Instructor, began training in 1999 and after years of continuous training and competition earned his Black Belt in 2008 directly under Master Carlos Gracie. Professor Alfred attributes a lot of what he has become today on and off the mat to the study of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. A very accomplished competitor; Professor Alfred holds many gold medals consisting of five gold medals at the U.S Nationals and one bronze, as well as silver, then bronze, and finally a Gold medal at the Pan American Championships. After years of hard work and dedication Professor Alfred is now able to pass on the knowledge he has learned from Master Carlos Gracie Jr. and Professor Marcio Feitosa and truly believes it has been a life changing passion to open his own School and be able to teach the art he loves so much!

Professor Marcelo De Souza began training in 1994 at the legendary Gracie Barra headquarters Rio de Janeiro, Brazil under the instruction of Master Carlos Gracie Jr. He has since been an accomplished competitor and world known instructor. Professor Marcelo began teaching in his home academy where he grew up and trained in Brazilian Jiujitsu. In 2006 Prof.De Souza received his Black Belt from the hands of the legendary Master Carlos Gracie Jr. In 2007, Prof. De Souza left Brazil to come to the United States to share his passion for teaching and unparalleled knowledge he acquired from great mentors such as Prof. Marcio Feitosa and Master Carlos Gracie Jr. himself. From 2007 to 2009, he was one of the original Assistant Professors at Gracie Barra America in California, the first Gracie Barra Academy in the United States and new home of Prof. Feitosa and Master Carlos Gracie Jr. Professor Marcelo has since gone across the United States helping Academies train new students in the skill, lifestyle and art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Professor Fabio Vilela, Black Belt, trained under one other great Professor, Marcio Feitosa, who are also responsible for what he has become today. In the BJJ world he is known as “Gigantinho” (Little Giant) due to his older brother “Gigante” (Giant), in whose footsteps he followed. He started training “Muay Thai” at the age of 10 and kept it for 7 years. Around 15 years old, his brother, “Gigante”, was placed second at the 1996 Pan-American Jiu Jitsu Championship. That was when “Gigantinho” felt motivated in learning the fascinating BJJ martial art, which he has continued practicing for the past 12 years. Professor Fabio is not just a Professor but also an active athlete competing in championships worldwide. His greatest honors so far accomplished, include World Champion No-Gi (2007), Pan-American Champion (2008), and twice National American Champion. He is also an official referee of the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation. While in Brazil, Fabio majored in Fitness and worked as a Personal Trainer for three years before coming to the US. As a Jiu Jitsu Professor he believes that this has helped him significantly, in helping his students accomplish better results. Professor Fabio Villela’s mission is to present, to those who are interested in the BJJ world, how it can be valuable to their lives. BJJ is a discipline that maintains body, soul, and mind with complete health and harmony.

Professor Marcelo Ribeiro earned his black belt in 2001, he started studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the young age of 12 years old. Today with 34 years old he specializes in teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to children and adults. After owning for 4 years a successful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Professor Marcelo decided to come to US with his family and in 2006. Professor Marcelo is also known for coaching successful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitors, he has produced many gold medalists on the major championships like the prestigious IBJJF Worlds, Pan Americans and Nationals. Professor Marcelo is also a top referee, and referee director to IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federeation) in major championships. When not teaching classes, Professor takes his time to volunteer and teach law enforcement, and has done seminars and special self defense training for SWAT, Troopers and Sheriff’s departments.

Our fitness trainers lead our Muay Thai Fitness Kickboxing classes and train our members who come from throughout the greater Austin area, Circle C, Shady Hollow, South Austin, Dripping Springs, Westlake Hills, Buda, Kyle, and Oak Hill. You’ll learn and build new skills, and always face the right challenge. Your training will be self-paced and motivating, with a trainer always close by to help.

John’s Gym was created primarily for law enforcement, military, security personnel, business professionals and their families, but membership is open to the public. Self defense training and fitness is something the entire family can enjoy. While a child attends a martial arts class and dad takes a self defense class, mom can work out in the cardio, strength, or boxing areas – It’s a gym designed for serious training but with the family in mind. The gym features a full line of Hammer Strength weight training equipment, Precor cardio machines, a 1,000 square foot martial arts mat area, a raised official size boxing ring, over 30 kick boxing bags for Cardio Boxing and Cardio Kick Boxing, men’s and women’s bathrooms, and a half an Octagon MMA training cage.

We provide all training and equipment needed to succeed. We scientifically quantify and chart progression with state of the art striking, grappling, strength and cardio equipment. 2,000 square feet of continuous mat space minimizes crowding and accidental collisions.

We are dedicated to providing a positive, supportive training environment with checked egos, our staff combines more than 100 years of field and instruction experience.

Each semester the members of the Texas Jiu jitsu club pay dues and hire an instructor to conduct one to two classes per week. Members can wear a gi (just like your traditional judo uniform with a belt) or no gi (just shorts and a t-shirt). The first class is free and all levels are welcome. Most of our members got their first experience with Brazilian Jiujitsu in the club. Other activities include competing as a team at Brazilian Jiujitsu Tournaments and getting together to watch UFC and other MMA events.
