Our motto is “Fitness with Purpose.” There are many fitness concepts available to us. Aerobics, swimming, weight lifting, and running are all valid forms of fitness with unique benefits. But many of these can become tedious and boring as the same routine is performed over and over again.

Most importantly, you would have to combine many of these activities in order to build lean muscle mass, improve cardiovascular fitness, coordination and biomechanics while having fun. The great thing about Leading Edge is you can do all of these things at the same time! Leading Edge is a great way to get in shape, learn self-protection and improve your confidence simultaneously.

Our students are introduced to fundamental principles of martial arts through an athletic approach to training. Realistic and contemporary training methods are utilized which stress cultivation of proper body mechanics, conditioning, power, speed, economy of motion, awareness, and knowledge of the various ranges of combat.

The NW Kickboxing CSW program teaches the fundamental movements and defenses on the ground and progress to learning proper positions, take downs, counters,and escapes. Students learn an entire range of submissions, attacking all parts of the body from head-to-toe, in a safe and progressive atmosphere. Along with ground techniques, CSW students are taught offensive and defensive kickboxing fundamentals including elbow and knee techniques, clinch and standing grappling.

Northwest Kickboxing offers STX kickboxing, a dynamic blend of Muay Thai from Thailand and Savate Boxe Francaise from France. Students are taught the fundamental principles of these disciplines. The STX program at NW Kickboxing is endorsed by USA boxing, the national governing body of amateur,olympic-style-boxing. USA Boxing insures students that they are receiving top of the line training. Many famous athletes have come from USA endorsed programs including, but not limited to, Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Oscar de la Hoya.

Combat Submission Wrestling, or CSW is a mixed martial art developed by former Shoot wrestling world champion and world-class coach Erik Paulson. Having spent decades training under some of the worlds most accomplished instructors including Dan Inosanto, Rickson Gracie, and Yori Nakamura, Paulson has blended his knowledge of Shoot wrestling, Muay Thai, Kali, Jeet Kune Do, and more into a dynamic mix of ground and standup for MMA arena which he calls Combat Submission Wrestling.

Northwest Kickboxing is headed by Sifu/Guro Christopher Clarke. Clarke began martial arts training in hard style Japanese karate at the age of 18. After only a few short months of traditional training in 1984, he was introduced to the dynamic blend of martial arts training of the Inosanto group through another NW instructor, Cliff Lenderman. Clarke received his Apprentice Instructor certificate in November of 1987. In the summer of 1989 he began travelling to Los Angeles to train directly under Inosanto and his group of dedicated students. Today, Sifu Clarke is the only certified Full Instructor in the Pacific Northwest authorized by Dan Inosanto to teach and promote the Filipino Martial Arts and Lee Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do.

All ability levels are welcome. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace to meet their individual goals with careful, guided instructors. So not matter no matter what your skill level or goals are, this program offers something for everyone.

If you are looking to learn mixed martial arts and get in great shape, our American Top Team (ATT) program is great for beginners or advanced students. You will learn stand up techniques from boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai. You learn how to work in the clinch and use take downs to put your opponent on the ground and learn finishing techniques like arm bars and chokes. Some who progress might be interested in testing their talent in the cage, but the majority of our students attend our mixed martial arts classes because they are fans of the UFC and would like to learn techniques they watch the pros using.

Our Academy currently consists of over 500 SQ FT of matted rolling/training area. 2 MMA Heavy bags, a Upper Cut (Cannonball bag), a striker (Bob & Weave bag), 1 90lb Toss Dummy, 2 AeroDin Bike, Over 500lbs of Misc weights and Olympic equipment, Gloves, pads & more. Plus more equipment arriving almost daily. The Academy will in the future have over 1200 SQ FT of matted rolling/training area. A Full 18FT Cage, Several more different weight machines and weight lifting equipment including Battle Ropes, and the TRX System. Gym will also have speed bags, Thai bags, a sauna and lots lots more!

We regularly host tournaments and are avid participants in local and regional tournaments. We encourage everyone who is interested to check out our academy. We are one big family and we are always open to new members. We are committed to providing the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training by promoting a positive mental attitude, the highest level of focus on fitness and health, and a culture of respect and self-discipline!

Instructor Kevin Smith is a black belt through the Gracie Barra Team. His Instructor Rodrigo Lopes has worked with Kevin for many years and has been a great inspiration as an instructor. Kevin has been involved in many types of martial arts, and has been teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the past 18 years. He has invested many years in training and volunteered support to keep Brazilian Jiu Jitsu going in Washington, which is now the biggest Martial Art in the world. After being absent from competition for the past ten years; Kevin recently competed in the Pan Am 2010 Jiu Jitsu Competition and placed 3rd in his division.

Justin Angelos is a 4 stripe Brown belt directly under 8th degree Black belt, Pedro Sauer. Justin is the head instructor of Lynnwood Gracie Jiu jitsu, and was the first official Pedro Sauer association representative in Washington State. He has been teaching under the guidance of the Pedro Sauer association since mid-2004, and was the first Pedro Sauer affiliate in the Pacific Northwest. In that time, we have brought Pedro Sauer and his top black belts to the greater Seattle area to spread the art of Gracie Jiu jitsu on many occasions. The Pedro Sauer association has since grown into one of the largest international Jiu jitsu associations, with schools all over the United States, as well as in Canada, Iceland, Brazil, China, and Australia.
