Merced Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Merced, California, is owned by Tom Theofanopoulos, who also owns and operates Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts Academy since 1988. Tom has over 30 years experience in the Martial Arts, including titles in Wrestling (Junior Olympic Competitor), Traditional Karate (8th Degree Black belt), Kajukenbo (Professor title), Jiu Jitsu (Black Belt) under the Behring Family System and four-time US Open Champion.
Chief Instructor at Merced MMA is Marcos Tome, who was born and raised in Brazil. He holds a Brown belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu and a Brown belt in Judo. The Kick Boxing instructor is Justin Smitley, a Professional Mixed Martial Arts Fighter who has been studying the Martial Arts his entire life. He is also the Chief Kickboxing Instructor at Oakdale MMA. Justin holds a Purple belt in Brazilian JiuJ itsu.
