Progressive Martial Arts was founded by Sensei Bryon Schnell, who was born and raised in San Clemente. He has experience in a wide variety of martial arts and has been teaching in San Clemente for over 15 years.
FULL CONTACT FIGHTING
Bryon studied first under Steve McBride (Bruce Lemer Student) for 2 years, then trained for 6 years with Joe Tarango, 7th degree Kajukenbo master and former 6th World PKA rated full contact fighter. He is still training and is a certified instructor under both.
Bryon studied for 2 years under Thailand Lumpini Stadium Campion and 3 time ‘94-’96 Muay Thai champion Vince Soberano (62-2 record).
Bryon studied for 8 years and received a purple belt under world renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and referee Randy Bloom, who is one of the first Americans to receive a black belt from Joe Moreira, 7th degree.
MIXED MARTIAL ARTS
Bryon trained for 1 1/2 years under MMA fighter Chris Brennan and his fight team Erika Montoya, Adam Lind, Josh Smith and Ian McCall
Bryon has trained for over 11 years and holds a 3rd degree black belt under 7th degree professor Steve Torres, multiple national weapons and forms champion.
ARNIS (Filipino Fighting Sticks)
Bryon has trained for more than 9 years under various instructors like Matt Dorsey (JKD), Steve McBride (Sulite/JKD), Joe Tarango (Arnis), Ron Pierce (JKD), and Wendell Caniete (Doce Pares).
Bryon has trained for 6 years under master Eric Lee, who frequently teaches seminars at the Progressive Martial Arts school.
Bryon trained for 1 1/2 years and holds a purple belt under Soke Acee Comegys, developer of American Aiki-Te Martial Arts.
