The Heights Jiu-Jitsu Club in Houston, Texas, offers instruction in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for all ages in two locations inside the Loop area. Our main location is at the Brazilian Arts Foundation located in the Heights, with a new satellite location at Breakaway Speed Sports Training in Bellaire.

Head Instructor Marcos Cerqueira was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has been practicing and working with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since the middle 90’s. Marcos had the opportunity to train with the big names of jiu-jitsu like Carlos Henrique (black belt 3rd degree), Master Carlson Gracie (in memoriam), Grand Master Francisco Mansur (Red Belt 9th degree), Hannette Staack (ADCC 2007 Female Champion), Andre Negao (black belt 2nd degree, who together with Master Luis Carlos Mateus Dias “Manimal” promoted Marcos to a black belt) among others. For many years Marcos fought many jiu-jitsu tournaments in Brazil, always defending the names of Carlos Henrique and the Carlson Gracie Team. In 2001, as a brown belt, he decided to concentrate more on teaching this incredible and efficient martial art. At first, Marcos began teaching in his home country and now in Houston, at the Brazilian Arts Foundation.

  1. Sandra B says:

I am from DC and I checked out BJJ schools in Houston the whole day calling almost all of them around the area. I FINALLY came accross the one run by Marcos Cerquiera. I called and did not leave a message as I kept on looking for a school that would take me for 1 day or 2. Marcos was kind enough to call me back and invite me over to train even though I was already running late. Marcos was very nice, professional and he is a great teacher. The whole team was friendly and yet challenging enough for me to have a good roll. The facility was clean and it was just great to train with them. It was so good that I came back the next day and had the pleasure to learn more techniques from Sensei Marcos. All I am saying is that this guy deserve that you pay him a visit cause he is simply very good at what he does and will not give you the run around or all that crap talk for you to drop by. I recommend that BJJ school 200%.
