T-Town MMA is part of a community of serious, open minded, and friendly martial arts students and teachers in Tacoma, Washington. We train in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA): KickBoxing, Boxing, Submission Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). The goal of our gym is to provide the most well rounded approach to martial arts training in general and to support each student’s personal goals be it to get in shape, acquire self defense skills, learn a traditional discipline, be part of our competition team (T-Town MMA), or become a full contact MMA fighter. We have classes for adults and children. We want to be a positive influence in the Tacoma community and will accept low income youth students on a sliding scale. All types and levels of abilities are welcome.
Classes and Programs
In this class students train in various forms of Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Full Contact Karate to improve their footwork, angels, kicking, kneeing and punching. The techniques demonstrated in these high cardio classes teach students how to strike properly and defend themselves in the striking zone.
Conditioning/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Warm-up:
Based on exercise science this high intensity 30 minutes uses different calisthenics, core and bodyweight exercises that are designed to build strength, endurance, coordination, flexibility in every student.
In this class students learn to improve their technique through static repetition or “drilling.” Repeating the same technique allows students to create muscle memory ultimately improving their mechanics and basic understanding of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Drilling is the best way students can learn to replicate the positions and basic combinations used during training and competition.
Mixed Brazilian Jiu Jitsu:
In this class students are taught the self defense and sport applications used in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through technical instruction, live positional drills, sparring or “rolling.” With a large emphasis on positions, control, joint locks and chokes, this class teaches students how to manipulate their opponent by utilizing proper technique, leverage and strategy. Mixed BJJ is open to students of any skill level.
In this class students learn to improve their clinching, takedowns and throws by combining the techniques used in Freestyle & Greco Roman Wrestling with submission holds taught in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This class caters to students needs, with content focusing on transitions, submission wrestling and MMA striking and grappling techniques.
SATURDAY BJJ Rewind:
This class is review of the techniques demonstrated throughout the week during Mixed BJJ. Students can come in for a few hours on Saturday to catch-up on any classes they missed or to gain a better understanding of the techniques learned over the last week.
Students are encouraged to use this uninstructed time to further develop their skills. During Open Mat students are free to roll with a teammate, rework BJJ techniques, submission wrestle, punch a heavy bag or to relax and pick the instructors brain for tips to improve their overall training.
