Southwest Karate & Aikido Center/Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu of Lomita/Palos Verdes provides both children and adult classes in Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and now Mixed Martial Arts. Our facility provides ample area to move around in – be it performing techniques independently or with a group – we have 1,200 square feet of mat space to work with in our 3,000 square foot facility.

We have have now partnered up with Royce Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, through the instruction Sensei Patrick King, Royce Gracie black belt, Sensei Jason Cordero, and Sensei Donovan Sellan. The teachings of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu compliments many of our Shotokan Karate Kata’s Bunkai (Kata self defense applications) enabling further growth in our art while strengthening our tradition.

The Southwest Karate & Aikido Center was first established in 1997 by Sensei Steve Gancherov. After winning the World Traditional Karate Championships in the October of 1994 he decided to go after his next goal, establishing a Karate school where he could develop his vision of a martial arts program. Through the teachings of Sensei Steve, students are taught that everybody has brilliance and greatness inside of them, it’s just a matter of reaching inside and bringing it to the surface and following that path – realizing their own strengths through the development of character, respect, and humility.
