Greg Jackson is a master when it comes to breaking down an opposing fighter and figuring out a plan of attack for his student.

This past weekend, Jackson helped guide UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to a near flawless victory over former pupil Rashad Evans in the main event of UFC 145.

Despite all the problems between Jones, Evans and Jackson, this was about Jackson manufacturing an attack that would keep “Suga” from inflicting much damage on “Bones.”

“It was a pretty intricate game plan because Rashad brings a lot of stuff,” said Jackson, during the post-fight interview on FUEL TV. “But underpinning it was constant forward pressure. Not letting him get a chance to establish a rhythm was a very, very important component.”

Jackson’s base in in New Mexico, working alongside the likes of Mike Winkeljohn and Chris Luttrell. Jackson’s MMA boasts such fighters as Jones, Georges St-Pierre, Carlos Condit, Nate Marquardt and Clay Guida among others.

Along with founding his own brand of martial arts, Gaidojutsu, Jackson incorporates wrestling, grappling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and kickboxing into his plans.

With Jones, it is pretty easy for Jackson, as the star pupil is easy to train and absorbs items like a sponge.

“The thing about Jon is that you don’t want to get too hyper-specific about what you exactly what him to do,” Jackson said. “He likes that, but it’s better to let him flow and be creative. We worked a lot of stuff similar to that, but you never know when he’s going to do it, and neither does his opponent.”
