Great school. All of the instructors are top notch. Price is very reasonable. The only negative thing is all the instructors have full time jobs, so there are only evening hours during the week.

A great gym, instructors have a wealth of knowledge that really helps to put them a head above the other local gyms. Teachs Relson Gracie Jiu Jitsu and really takes the time to teach the finer points of the techniques, rather then just giving a overview and letting you try to work out the finer points. Jim, Ray, Joe and Andre all take the time and are meticulous with the details of each move, though still giving us the room to make it “Our own Jiu Jitsu.” Constantly having different instructors come in to teach like Phil Cardella and Relson Gracie himself, giving us even more top level instructions, and bringing in other black belts like Toney Waldecker to really help tighten up any small gaps in any techniques. Glad I got in with this Gym, the facilities for the pay is second to none, and the enviroment with the other students is great to, a very laid back and enjoyable place to hang out and practice. I would recommend it to anyone that I know is interested.

Best school in the area, awesome Relson Gracie School!
Best teachers ranging from Blue to Black belts.

Great support system, to make sure you advance in your knowledge of MMA. Seminars are with professional fighters from major organizations (example, WEC).

Best MMA gym in Southern Maryland!!! Great instructors and awesome training facility!

  • Tyler says:

One word to describe this gym is “WOW”. I’ve got to meet and train with Gracie’s like Relson and Ryron. I’ve also trained with Professional fighters like Sean Douglas, Toney Waldecker, and Phil Cardella. If your serious about training don’t go to “McDOJO’s” train at Calvert MMA and get the attention you paying for to be the best.

Top notch school. Best in Southern MD. Instructors range from Blue to Black belt. Techniques are shown in great detail & personal attention is always there for you. Frequent (3 or 4 times a year) visits by Relson Gracie, not to mention Phil Cardella & others (Ryron Gracie most recently). Facility is large (2000 ft of mat, 8 heavy bags, speed bag) & clean. Student body is friendly & varied. Men, women, adults, children. Students range from young children to some of us “old timers” in our 50’s & 60’s. Frankly, if you’re in Southern MD & not training here you are missing out.

I wouldn’t want to train under any body else but Toney Waldecker for BJJ. I trained at a more expensive school in P.G. and felt like a number to them. At Calvert your family and the school is very clean!

  • Eric says:

I trained at other schools before finding the Calvert MMA Academy. I was actually happy with my last school and it wasn’t until I tried a class at Calvert MMA I realized I could be happier, so I joined. What I like about this academy is the technique is clean and easy. Anyone can do the moves. I also like how the instructors help each student. They don’t just focus on a few top student athletes that compete like most schools I’ve attended, they help everyone. There is a wide variety of students from old to young and big to little to train with. Everyone works as a team and the classes are fun. The other thing I really like is the opportunity we get to train with actual Gracies’ and top level professional competitors. This year alone, I’ve meet four different Gracie’s. I recommend you try a class at Calvert MMA Academy if you want to train BJJ or MMA. It’s the best I’ve seen so far.

Best team to train with. BJJ, Judo, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Yoga. Lots of fun, developing mad skills, great coaches and everyone’s cool here.
