UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre says he will be back to his old self in no time after suffering a torn ACL in training recently. The injury forced GSP to pull out of a planned fight with Nick Diaz, who will now meet Carlos Condit for an interim title at UFC 143.

St-Pierre wanted to get one thing across following the announcement of his injury: he will return to top of the UFC’s welterweight division.

A few months ago I was on top of the world and I’m now I’m in a downfall. But you recognize a champion from how he comes back from things that don’t go well. Everybody that says bad things and says bad stuff about me right now, mark my words. I’m going to tell you right now, I’m in a downfall in my life, but in a few months, I’ll be back stronger than ever, and I will be champion again. I promise, said St-Pierre, in a conference call this past week. I’ll be back on top.

St-Pierre will be forced to go through a very long, very tough rehab process, especially considering one of his strong points is his boxing and wrestling both his which use the legs extensively. However, with this being the first main injury of career, it is highly
likely that the 31-year-old returns to his former fighting self in no time, especially when considering GSP’s workout program is considered to be one of the best in the entire sport.
