Shihan Joseph Claycomb 30 years of experience in the martial arts and has been instructing professionally for the last 17 years. He also holds a 6th degree black belt and is certified with the Japan Karate-do Maruyoshikai Organization (JKMO), the World Kanzen Budo Kai Federation (WKBKF) and the British Martial Arts Association (BMAA) Based in the UK.
He started his martial arts training at the age of seven and has since then trained internationally & locally with many high-ranking instructors. His first mentor and inspiration was Sensei Mark Kupsz, Chief- instructor of the Burleigh Shotokan Karate Club in Wales, whom Yousef considers to be the foundation and main influence of his knowledge. He has also been privileged and honored to learn from some of the best traditional martial artists in the world. Shihan Phil Dutton (7th Dan) former Welsh Karate team captain and of the British martial arts association (BMAA), Shihan Mehrdad Sadri (7th Dan) Vice president of the World Kanzen Budo Kai Federation & former USA National KATA & Weapons Champion, Shihan Morteza Alborzi (8th Dan) former USA National Team Coach, Iranian National Team Captain & Coach, Former W.U.K.O. Bronze Medalist & President of the World Kanzen Budo Kai Federation (WKBKF). All of them have all played a positive role in Claycomb’s growth and experience.
Currently Shihan Claycomb is under the direct tutelage of Master Toshiatsu Sasaki (8th Dan), a direct student of Masatoshi Nakayama. Master Sasaki is the president and chief instructor of Japan Karate-do Maruyoshikai Organization, as well as a World Karate Federation A-level referee.
Mr. Claycomb’s training includes a variety of arts, including Kung fu, Tae Kwon do, Judo, Kobudo, Shito ryu & Goju ryu Karate. However, his foundation of expertise has always been in Shotokan Karate-Do. Shihan Claycomb is also recognized as the Technical Director of JKMO for the United States and is a Certified Official with the USANKF.
With a very developed and dedicated student base in all ranks, Shihan Claycomb looks forward to an even stronger future in the years to come.
