ALLEGIANCE MMA AND DAVE HAGON ARE A SHAM. HAGON IS A FRAUD. Hagon claims he was awarded a black belt from Machado BJJ. Simply put, false. Hagon claimed a shadowy figure named “Fabio” awarded him a black belt. Again false. A “student” of his, MICKEY WonCHOI (who has a fake black belt) gave Hagon his so called “Belt”. Please read below…

Machado Jiu-Jitsu Utah Loses a Friend

A year or so ago I met and began to train with a guy who became someone that I honestly considered one of my better friends, somebody that I honestly cared about. And it hurts when you lose a friend like that, it hurts more than I wish to describe.

Anyway, this friend started training with Machado Jiu-Jitsu as a blue belt. And he was an asset to the class. I enjoyed training him and training with him.

This friend is Orem Utah’s Mickey Wonchoi of Wonchoi TKD. Mickey is an incredible Tae Kwon Do stylist and a very astute business man. His school in Orem is successful and his students seem happy; however, in what Mickey himself described as an act that was “all about money”, my friend traveled to Brazil to train with world Champion Eduardo Telles and when he came home he was wearing a black belt that he claimed Telles had awarded him after he paid Telles $500.

I congratulated Mickey, before I heard the $500 part of the story, even though I was confused by the possibility of anyone giving him a black belt at his stage of development as a Jiu-Jitsu stylist. Machado Jiu-Jitsu Utah did not, and does not, recognize his black belt but that doesn’t mean that somebody else couldn’t and if Mickey had decided to leave our organization then that is his choice. But Mickey didn’t want to leave our organization; he just wanted the black belt.

I was suspicious of his claims after first hearing his $500 black belt story . . . especially where it involved Telles who is, in my opinion, above that sort of thing and, considering that Telles comes from a well to do family, the idea that Telles sold a black belt for $500 is just silly.

Whether the idea was silly or not, I kept my opinions to myself. I always try to verify my suspicions before I make them public and this situation, involving someone I considered a friend, required that I pay extra special attention to what I said and when I said it. This is why I refrained from taking any official action until I had a chance to talk to Telles at the recent Aggro Submission Grappling Championships.

Telles was straight forward. He barely remembered Mickey and actually recalled a friend of Mickey’s from Korea, who traveled to Brazil with him, before remembering Mickey. He told us that Mickey trained with him for a week.

When we reported that Mickey was claiming to have received a black belt from Telles, Telles responded with a look of shock in his eyes that made him look like he had just French kissed the back side of a skunk before he asked “how can anyone get a black belt in a week? No. No. No.”

This was heard by three Machado Jiu-Jitsu representatives who had also been told the story of Mickey’s promotion by Mr. Wonchoi.

I apologize to anyone who feels like I have taken too much time to bring this forward, approximately four months; however, I felt that the delay was necessary so that I could give someone I called friend the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps my feelings kept me from responding as quickly as I should have but I felt caution was very important in this case.

So, to polish off this rather ugly story, let me close this by saying that Machado Jiu-Jitsu Utah regrets the choices that Mickey Wonchoi has made. We do not recognize his black belt. Mickey Wonchoi does not represent Machado Jiu-Jitsu.

If Mr. Wonchoi makes any claims that he is a representative of Machado Jiu-Jitsu then those claims are false. If Mr. Wonchoi claims to be a Machado Jiu-Jitsu black belt then those claims are false. If Mr. Wonchoi claims to be a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt then it is not from Eduardo Telles, according to Telles himself. If Mr. Wonchoi claims to be a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, at all, then please request that instructor’s name and contact information because as of today the information provided has not been what you might call the most reliable.

A letter focusing on the details of this post have been sent to Mr. Wonchoi

  • Dave Hagon is a poser says:

Dude learn how to spell, you sound like an idiot. I have been to your gym and honestly you suck. You have no idea what to do as far as a standup game goes and your jujitsu as far as I can see is only benefited by your enormous gut!

This is a great place to train. I’ve been training for two years under Fabio Santos. I love how they teach everything, from striking to ground work!

  • Randy Workman says:

i have been a member of allegiance for awhile and its a great place to train. i have benefited tremendously from Dave’s instruction, and would recommend this gym to any mixed martial arts enthusiast.

  • Antonio Sanchez says:

I trained in Allegiance for several months along with 3 of my cousins and I highly recommend this gym to any MMA enthusiast, sadly I left the gym because I was planning my wedding and my work schedule did not allow me the time to attend it and now I live in Vacaville too far for me. but any one living near woodland with dreams of MMA career or simply to be in fighting shape don’t pass by Allegiance with out trying.

  • Ann says:

I think the people who have trained at this GYM can speak for the authenticity of David Hagon. He has the heart and skill of a true fighter. He has trained people not only 2 win comprtition but taught them how to live a better life, in teaching them to belive in themselfs. I have trained with David and I have respect for him and his GYM.

  • Pablo Lomeli says:

Ive trained at Dave Hagons Allegiance MMA for several months and I recommend it to anyone in the Woodland CA area if they want to Kickbox (muay thai), practice awesome no gi Brazilian Jiu-Jiutsu with Dave who IS a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or MMA, its a guarantee that youll find an appropriate training partner for you! whether youre a flyweight or a heavyweight. They also have a great program for kids of all ages and Women, whether they want to be fighters or learn EFFECTIVE self defense skills. I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

  • Just an observer says:

With world class gyms like Ultimate fitness, Muay Thai-Thai Boxing, Muay Thai Lao, and Cassios Wernecks gym just a few miles away i see no reason to come to this gym…i have been training in MMA for several years now and i think the extra few miles is worth the legitimate world class training. With all that being said, i will admit i have never stept foot in this gym, but to be fair i wouldnt go to elite instinct or any other gym in woodland or davis. If your going to train, you might as well train with the best and do it right.

  • Robert Kessler says:

I really dont have anything bad to say about David Hagon, although i do hear he talks bad about me for not coming back to his gym. He has to understand i just had shoulder surgery. His gym is good for beginners. i trained there for about a year off and on, and i did learn alot but i do feel if you want to go pro and take it seriously then you should check out a different gym. although his gym is really good to start with.

  • DAVID says:

ROBERT I DO TRAIN PROS CURTIS JUST WON AT THE CAL EXPO CENTER AND NATTEN VICTOR ALEX AND CURTIS HAVE FOUGHT AND WON IN THE CAGE AND IN THE RING SO STOP TALKING AND START DOING

  • Random person reading reviews says:

I see that you have got some bad reviews and good reviews. I myself however am a critic. I’ve watched several fights of yours and other mma training schools and I do have to say that all the fights I have been to, your fighters have lost and fight like wildmen. This is just from viewing experience. Also I did hear that your fighter Curtis is 16 years old… In my opinion you shouldn’t of fought him in the pros. He’s too young and doesn’t have enough experience, time, or all of his so called “man muscles”. Well all I am saying is that I am not too sure about your gym and everyone deserves to read you good and bad reviews. Thank you

  • DAVID HAGON says:

TO YOU WHO GIVES NO NAME AND HAS SO MUCH TO SAY MY FIGHTERS JUST WON AT MUAY THAI LOA TOURMENT WHY DONT YOU COME DOWN AND LETS TALK OR IS IT SAFER BEHIND OR COMPUTER YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY BUT WONT GIVE OUR NAME MAYBE IT IS YELLOW

  • Leh says:

Hey! Hi, im a 15 year old girl and my boyfriend does MMA and Muay Thai and i want to try it. Im athletic and in shape and I was wondering if anyone would reccomend this gym for me. I live in woodland and need a gym here in woodland. I have heard that it is rare for girls to do MMA and Muay Thai, but iv always been pushed around and i want to stop that, plus i like to fight but id prefer not doing it against someone with a grudge. Suggestions?
    Thanks!
    -Leh

  • Word of Advice says:

Leh, go to Muay thai thai boxing in sacramento off of northgate. It is super cheap, if you sign up for a 6 month contract it is only 65 dollars! The class sizes are small and everyone is very friendly! There are even a few (3-4) girls there. Awesome little school, a little hard to find but one of the best places to get muay thai training in the area.

Also, they have a “womens cardio class” if that is something you would be interested in

  • David Hagon says:

Look I don’t feel this slandering that going on with out divulging your name is fair of you. If the truth lies behind your words then why not stand up and be proud of your words. I know when I have something to say I stand proud and allow who ever to see who I am. I don’t hide behind anything when I take a punch at someone. For your information I have trained for over 15 years! I have trained with Erik Paulson, the Machado brothers, and curently with Joe Moreira and Kurt Rojo. My fighters have WON 4 times at Gladiator Challange. So you might want to cheak your facts before you start throwing thing out there that is NOT fact.

  • ty says:

wtf? why all the hating? why don’t you fools just shut the fuck up. he’s a cage fighter what more do you need? you cant win every fight they don’t loose every fight either..damn. anyone can say anything…prove it

  • David Hagon says:

thanks ty all they can do is talk when we do. my fighters are win and they cant coach for mma. they hide behind there computer and call them seleves men

  • Robert Kessler says:

Well Dave i would love to stop talking and start doing as you put it, but if you remember i had a couch ”you” who let my shoulder pop without recommending any breaks! since then iv’e been stabbed in the same arm and have had shoulder surgery. So once i am able to train again trust me i would love too. And dont get all mad just cause i have my own opinion. I am very grateful for you letting me train their and I thank you for that, but you lied to me and everyone you train about how good and well established you were in MMA. Not to mention i hear your offering me a fight with Cutis when you know I just had surgery, when you know i haven’t been able to train so what kind of teacher does that make you look like? A desperate one to get a win under his gym if you ask me. I would love to do the fight if i could right now, but i can’t. letting my shoulder heal up the right way is alot more important than pride. you have really shown your true colors, and to anyone who is reading this and is thinking about training with this guy. like i said before if you are looking to get a feel for what the fight scene is about and get in shape go to him, but if your planning on trying to make it in the ”UFC” then i don’t think its a good place to go. All he cares about is getting his own name out there. I really hope all this back and forth shit talking ends because its pretty stuipid if you ask me. Like are you really that mad at my opinion, just be the bigger man and prove me wrong. Get one of your fighters into a big fight organization i guarantee everyone including myself would shut up! Hell i’ll even apologize in person.

  • jacob says:

well i went to the trial at this gym and wasnt taught much at all and when i was taught i was taught by another student not dave himself. This gym is pretty over priced to.obviously he’s not very professional freaking out over reviews of his gym if he dosent want the negativity maybe he should change something

  • Alex Zuniga says:

Im really scared “Doughnut” Dave! By the way, great fight! I posted it below to put an end to this damn argument! Train at Hagon’s gym and learn how to get fat and be knocked out! Sherdog has you listed as 0 wins, 2 losses. Both lost by knockout!

  • David says:

I was not knocked out that was a very early stoppage. Let me now. All you arm chair fighters that have ever excuses. Why they can do better. But all your best fights.are with your words. So keep talking case you will still just working fast food telling ever one what you could’ve done .talking is easy. So go ahead this is all you will ever do cut and tear on the one’s. Who do not just run there. Mouth.

  • David says:

Lupe me and you. Gladator challenge. All call Cal and make it happen

  • Jacob says:

Dude thats a joke right? you were clearly rocked you fully put your hands down and just took it like wow i dont understand why you dont just get some actual training

  • Mike says:

I’m pretty sure last time I check workman is a liar, fake, and stoner in town. And David even what you claim is true then cool, your reputation is ruined. So at the end of the day your exists wouldn’t even matter. What are you gunna do to lupe doughnut man? you think you could get away with spanking her with your black belt? Common your gym is like a 2,000 square foot shop in the middle of main street, its nothing special. Like if you were legit, you would already proved your self by now bro, and wouldnt of faught over computer. Its cool you have to tell your students to right good reviews for you on this site, its sad actually. Your poison to these kids skill.
