As you begin your training here at the Dubuque Martial Arts Group (D.M.A.G.) in Iowa, there are a few things that will help your learning experience be more fulfilling. I feel that a basic understanding of certain concepts and principles will help you better grasp what sometimes seems a scattered approach.

Our approach here is to offer you experiences in many things. Since combat is always changing you must be able to adapt and function in several modes. You cannot base your self-defense on a few prearranged techniques that and look great when practiced in an environment where the opponent’s motives are predictable. You must be able to flow and react in self-defense situations. In the street nothing is predictable.

We help you develop the skills to give you a better chance in a confrontation through the use of energy drills, conditioning, weaponry, and a common sense approach to the martial arts. The teaching method here is to give you a concept and let you discover the finer points through your personal experience. On your own you will make the fine adjustments in body mechanics, angling, pressure, speed, and others.

Among the arts we teach include Lacoste-Inosanto Kali, Jeet Kune Do, and Muay Thai.

I did boxing for a bit last semester when I was living in St.louis. Then I moved up here for school. I would love to learn more styles of fighting and possibly be able to fight in the future. What are some of the costs for the gym?
