Head Instructor Jason Clarke began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training with the famous Gracie Family while serving on active duty in the United States Army. After active duty he joined the Michigan Army National Guard while attending college and was the Hand to Hand combat instructor for his unit. He joined Saulo Ribeiro’s academy in Toledo, Ohio, in 2004 where he trained directly under Saulo and Xande Ribeiro as well as Chris Blanke. Saulo & Xande inspired Jason to pursue Judo to supplement his BJJ training. In late 2007 Jason moved to Iowa and was picked by the Ribeiro brothers to represent them in the Hawkeye State. Iowa City Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was opened shortly thereafter in 2008.
