Clean gym but expensive. This is the place to go if you are looking for strictly gi brazilian jiu jitsu. Black belt teaches grappling classes and at times is difficult to get along with. Some students are nice and helpful, others not so much.

Instructor is a tool, google his name and see what you find. Most of the guys are nice.

I provided them with my email address to email me and then continued to search their website I found that the hyperlinks went no where, so I responded to their soliciting emails by telling them I wasn’t interested in doing business with an academy that couldn’t manage its professional image, believing that this was some kind of bait and switch marketing technique. Here is the email I received back from Beth Callazo their GM:

“We purposely have hyperlinks that lead to no where in order to help us weed out potential child molesters. There was a recent study done by the Stanford University Psychological Department concluding that the only people who care about dead hyperlinks on Jiu-Jitsu websites are those that prefer to prey on children.” She continues, “Thank you for helping us with this screening process. But don’t be discouraged. There are plenty of BJJ Academies in the Buffalo area that not only will accept your kind, but also have many others like yourself to train with. Unfortunately the BJJ won’t be of the same quality…. but hey, at least their hyperlinks will work! Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful day!!!!”

Wow, the level of stupidity was astonishing. If only Beth put half as much energy into maintaining her website as she did her rhetorical absurdities. You might ask, ‘what did you write exactly to warrant this response?’ to that I give you my exact email verbatim:
    Hi Beth,
Unfortunately, I’m not interested in Buffalo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. Your website was impossible to navigate and was a complete turnoff. The hyperlinks that worked lead no where and I’m not inclined to train at a facility that can’t maintain its professional appearance.” Perhaps, I was being a bit standoffish with my response, but who knows how many times I would’ve been contacted by this crazy woman had I given my number. No matter how you interpret my email (standoffish, judgmental, rude) it was far from crass and far from warranting a response in which Beth Callazo the GM of Buffalo Jiu Jitsu Academy responded by calling a potential customer whom she’d never met a child molester or for that matter insinuating that the psychology (not psychological) department at Stanford produces such heinously wicked studies.

Bottom line, STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AS IS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. If jiu jitsu is about self-discipline then this place needs to reel in its GM Beth Callazo for some more lessons in not only discipline but also customer relations.

Wouldn’t step foot in their door if you paid me. Irregardless of how great the level of instruction is, I was treat very rudely by Beth Callazo their GM. I was disappointed with their website and told her I was interested in pursuing lessons at a place that represented itself unprofessionally. Her response was childish, immature, unprofessional and just rude. I give their instructors mad props because after researching other forums it sounds like they are wicked good, but if jiu-jitsu is founded on discipline and self restraint then they really need to sit Beth Callazo down and have a talk before anyone should consider going here. Sorry, but I’ll train somewhere else.

Horrible customer service, sorry I’ll take my business elsewhere.

i checked the place out… i wish i hadn’t… the “professor” was rude, the prices were insanse, and there is better brazilian jiu-jitsu instruction in town. the guys claims to be de la riva’s first american black belt BUT HE ISN’T! search dustin denes to find a REAL american bjj black belt under de la riva!

and if your a military guy, an ex-military guy, or just a person who cares about our country check this link and search for MANY like it http://www.nytimes.com/1991/05/04/us/marine-is-found-guilty-of-attempted-spying.html

  • Burton says:

Awesome jiu-jitsu and a great friendly environment. Professor is a quiet guy who doesn’t take any non sense. He is in fact De La Riva’s FIRST and ONLY American black belt. Dustin Denes got his black belt from Conan Silva. Do your homework before you regurgitate untruths.

  • Richard says:

This place has great BJJ, the instructors are awesome and the Black Belt there is a bit quiet but he runs a tight ship. Buffalo BJJ is very good at Gi and No-Gi. The Black Belt their is freinds with Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu 2013. ADCC World Champion. Cyborg visits the gym occasionaly to teach some different techniques. Its great to have such a cutting edge black belt come into your academy and train you. Buffalo BJJ is the best Jiu-Jitsu in the area hands down.
