Universal Martial Arts Center, located in Queens, New York, was started in 2000 by Master (SABUMNIM) Vincent Sinclair and Senior Instructor (KYOBUMNIM) Arthur Henry. With the help of Instructors (KYOSAHNIM) Urbane Waterman and Vincent Sinclair, Jr. they established a school (DOJANG) to spread the values and traditions of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control and Indomitable Spirit. Teaching styles including the Korean styles of Taekwondo and Hapkido, the Japanese style of Judo, the Chinese style of Tai Chi, the Brazilian styles of Capoeira or Jiu-jutsu, Universal Martial Arts Center now offers a wide variety with which to spread the martial way.

Our Universal MMA program is a combination of multiple arts utilizing the ability to fight standing or close range grappling and ground fighting. Our program is a comprehensive combination of Taekwondo, Boxing, Judo, Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. A Mixed martial artist must cross train in a variety of styles to counter their opponent’s strengths and remain effective in all phases of combat. For instance a stand up fighter will have little opportunity to use their skills against a submission artist who has also trained in take downs. Many traditional disciplines remain popular as ways for a fghter to improve aspects of their game. Some styles have been adapted from their traditional form, such as boxing stances which lack effective counters to leg kicks and take downs, or Judo techniques, which must be adapted for No Gi completion. It is common for a fighter to train with multiple coaches of different styles or an organized fight teamTo improve various aspects of their game at once: Cardiovascular conditioning, speed drills, strength training and flexibility are also important aspects of an MMA Fighter’s training.

Our Taekwondo Instructors include: Mr. Antonio, Mr. David, Mr. Rawle and Mr. Barry; in addition to the other stylist teachers, Sensei Sule for Judo, Sifu Dudley for Tai Chi, Profesor Antonio for Capoeira and Mr. Carmine Zocchi for Brazilian Juijutsu. Each one helps Sabumnim provide quality instruction for our local community and the world at large.
