Upstate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, based at NY Boxing Group’s location in Cohoes, New York, is led by Brown Belt Ryan Clark.  The Jiu-jitsu classes are held three days a week where the basis is to work on submission grappling ground combat skills. The program also features a combination program of hand striking and Jiu-jitsu in a blended Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) program. The part of the program featuring the stand up striking portion is taught by Shannon Miller and the ground style is taught by Ryan. This is a very unique program and is the only one in the area teaching this blended realistic fighting style.

Ryan Clark is currently a brown belt under Steve Kardian (Black belt from Phil Migliarese) and Rob Kahn (Black belt from Legendary UFC Fighter Royce Gracie) Ryan spent his college years training at the first Gracie Academy in the Northeast which was established in 1994.  At the academy, Ryan was exposed to the proper way of teaching Brazilian Jiu-jitsu at seminars put on by Erik Paulson, Phil Migliarese, Royler Gracie and even Royce Gracie.  In order to stay on top of his game, Ryan frequently heads back to his roots and trains with top level black belts, something that most people do not have the privilege of doing.

Upstate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is now holding BJJ classes at NY Boxing Group’s second location in Rotterdam (7 Mariaville Road).
