Templar Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Wilson, North Carolina offers instruction for both youth and adults in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We have a wonderful family-friendly training environment in a beautiful 3,000 square feet building complete with bathrooms, a shower, and a game room for the kids.

Instructor Tim Barnes has more than twenty years of training in martial arts: He has studied Tae-Kwon-Do, Aikido, and Ninjitsu before switching to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in 2000. In 1998, Tim became the Lead Self Defense and Hand-to-Hand Combat Instructor for the Wilson Police Department where he has worked for more than ten years. He is a state certified Subject Control and Arrest Techniques Instructor as well as a certified Ground Defense Instructor.

Dr. Clifford Lewin holds a Masters Degree in Christian Counseling and he has served his community in many various ways over the last 18 years. He is a sought after counselor known for his wisdom in dealing with tragedy and conflict in real life issues. He is also a highly skilled Martial Artist training in the art on Kuntaw as a personal student of Grandmaster Carlito A. Lanada of which he received his Black Belt in December 2005. He has trained in Tae-Kwon-Do and has spent the last three and a half years training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Tim Barnes and various instructors. He became an affiliate with Pendergrass Academy of Martial Arts in Wake Forest, NC in September of 2007 and currently holds a Blue Belt in BJJ. Dr. Lewin firmly believes that Martial Arts taught the right way can lead children and youth to be more confident and positive when faced with the difficulty of peer pressure and can lead to a very healthy active lifestyle. Dr. Lewin is the Senior Pastor of Wilson Praise and Worship and the Chaplain for the Wilson Fire Department.

    I been at templar for 5 months now and I have learned plenty of helpful techniques. I got nothing but love for templar jiu jitsu. Good atmosphere, friendly but physical competition, everyone is helpful if you are not afraid to ask questions. I will recomend this jiu jitsu school to anyone interested in bjj.
