Located in Reidsville, North Carolina, Universal Karate Academy, Inc. was founded by Sensei John Riley in 1981. The original school was eventually purchased by two of the school’s black belt students, Mark Sackfield and Joe Martin in September 1991 establishing the new Universal Karate Academy, Inc.
While continuing many of the traditions and style of the original school, today’s Universal Karate Academy also incorporates other martial arts styles including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Team Rubao Carioca BJJ), making a true American Mixed Martial Arts school. Additional styles, contemporary training equipment and modern training techniques make UKA an ideal place for people of all ages. The school’s goal remains the same as its founder’s, Sensei Riley’s, original objective: “To provide an enjoyable environment in which students can learn self defense, self discipline, and attain physical well being.”
