[GYM IS CLOSED] Mata Leao is a MMA Training Facility in Sumter, South Carolina.  We are the first in the area and strive to be the best. In the short time that we have been open we have already brought a Championship belt back to South Carolina.  Come and learn a combo of Jui Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai, and Wrestling to be well rounded to compete in Mixed Martial Arts.

We have three certified instructors: Derrick Kennington, is a Blue belt in Jiu Jitsu and certified Yudansha Fighting Systems Mixed Martial Arts instructor and 5-1 Professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter. Derrick has also trained under Ganyoa Fairtex, the director of Fairtex Muay Thai in San Fransisco, California, and Martin Suarez (Judo black belt, Karate Black belt, Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, and MMA veteran of Japan and Alaska) who certified him.

Next, we have Gracie Jiu Jitsu Brown Belt Jack Walker (10 yr Brown belt under Pedro Valente of Gracie Miami), and Randy Shamblin, Black belt in Tae Kwon Do, Blue belt in South Eastern Karate and a Green sash in Filipino Arts.  Our Boxing Coach is Jared Robinson, who is one of the top boxers in the nation.  He is a three-time South Carolina State 1st place Golden Gloves, 3 time USA state 1st place champion and 2008 US National Bronze Medalist and Ranked 3rd in the Nation.

Our Gym will consist of conditioning/warm ups to start class, then go into group stretching, followed by basic skills/drills of the day focusing on technique and last we will spar or roll to execute our training for the day.  We are very technical and serious about our training to become the best!

Best MMA gym in town, too bad they had to move and train in the Keishidojo building.

Just because we train out of Keishidojo, doesn’t mean we still aren’t the best. We have way more mat space, way more access to the gym and way more room. Not to mention more qualified coaches in Jiu Jitsu.

That guy JD is a joke, get got tapped by a few of my yellow belts when we came down from NC. I hope you didn’t mean him, and by the way don’t you think that 2 hours is a little bit too short for an MMA class? I mean you are only open for 2 or 3 days a week and you can really improve that much with that.

I enjoyed the experience at this place it was years ago but i am a contender in NH and i am proud to say they tought me what i needed to do on my own as well as in the class. Physically i never found a more challenging process and i hope to train beside these guys again
