The Pure Jiu-jitsu philosophy prepares men, women and children in mind, body and spirit. The holistic development of the human being, rather than just the refining of one’s physical techniques are the desired outcomes of instruction. Jiu-Jitsu is the oldest and most complete martial art in existence. Literally, the word “jujutsu” can be translated as the art of flexibility, or gaining victory by yielding.
The curriculum of the Pure Jiu-Jitsu Academy follows the teachings of Carlos and Helio Gracie; using minimum force with maximum efficiency. A true self-defense system that focuses on awareness, preparedness and understanding of a situation. Whether that situation is on the street, a sporting competition, with or without a gi, Pure Jiu-jitsu will equip you with the fundamental principles needed to survive, succeed and overcome aggression. Our goal is to produce students that epitomize the ideals of self-confidence, situational awareness, discipline and respect.
Kendall Goo has 15 years as both a competitor and instructor in the art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Kendall is a Royce Gracie Black belt instructor and holds two world titles in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as countless state and national championships. Kendall is a licensed teacher and has over eight years of experience as a public school teacher and holds a Master’s Degree in Education.
Kendall has been trained by the likes of Royce and Relson Gracie, Pedro and Guillherme Valente, and Saulo and Xande Ribeiro, among countless other world-class practitioners. His broad base of competitive experience, knowledge of self-defense, and teaching philosophy is a rare combination to be found in today’s martial arts academies. Kendall is an expert in competition techniques, self-defense and law enforcement defensive tactics.
Kendall was born and raised in Hawaii, but traveled the world in pursuit of excellence in the art of Jiu-Jitsu. In 2007 he moved to Arizona with his wife Laura and children Kegan and Kayla to open a successful martial arts academy. Kendall eventually moved on to bigger and better opportunities and is happy to now be a founding member of AZ Muay Thai and Fitness, where Pure Jiu-Jitsu Academy is located at!
