Crossroads Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Waterford is Southern Connecticut’s source of first class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and grappling training. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, a combat sport and also a system of Self Defense that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. A high percentage of self defense situations end up on the ground simply because a person was grabbed before they realized what was happening and had a chance to escape. However, by understanding what is happening we can replace what seems like chaos with understanding. With the understanding of timing, momentum and balance it is possible to end a fight safely. The main principle in BJJ is closing the distance, knowing that if you are far enough away from an attacker you can not be punched or kicked and that if you are very close those punches and kicks will not have enough power to be effective. It is with that knowledge that a practitioner of Brazilian jiu-jitsu can close the distance and bring the fight to the ground.
It is on the ground that a person knowing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can use leverage and apply easy to learn techniques to overcome a larger and stronger adversary. At Cross Roads Brazilian jiu-jitsu you will learn both self defense and competition techniques in a way that both experienced grapplers and first day students will be able to understand and use in any situation. You will gain discipline, patience and confidence in yourself.
Crossroads Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a Tim Burrill BJJ affiliate, currently meets at G’s Fitness in Waterford.
