This is hands down the nicest Jiu Jitsu gym I have ever seen in my entire life. Professor Alex is a beast. He received his black belt from Master Carlos Gracie Jr. himself and the validity of these credentials are apparent in his teaching. He never misses a detail and never lets anyone fall behind. It takes me more time than most to learn the techniques but he never lets me give up without getting them perfect. I’ve only been there for three weeks but I am definitely there to stay! Can’t wait to use the sauna!!!

Gracie Barra Back Bay is the perfect Jiu Jitsu gym. I’ve been going there for a month now and can’t stand to take days off because I love it so much! It’s a very respectful and friendly environment, and as soon as you leave your first (free) class, you want to come back the next day! The facilities are kept very clean, the location of the gym on Newbury St is so ideal, and the classes are impeccable!

I trained at an no-gi MMA gym prior to Gracie Barra, and some of the techniques that I learned were actually inaccurate. At Gracie Barra, Professor Alex, a third degree black belt under Master Carlos Gracie Jr., has been practicing BJJ for 26 years now and has a lot of experience and knowledge in the art. I now completely stand by Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Another subject to touch upon is the fact that I am a woman. When I came to Boston, I was very cautious about finding an MMA gym because I was nervous that I would find myself in an uncomfortable environment. At GB, everyone feels like a family. We’re all there to train and improve. Even if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of training with men, they also have Jiu Jitsu classes specifically for women. You just can’t go wrong, here!

This is the gym for anyone in Boston that is serious about Jiu Jitsu. Professor Alex is the best! Also, the facility itself is really beautiful. GBB is welcoming and friendly while also completely focused on training and improving.

Fantastic gym! A great place to train and not at all intimidating. Professor Alex Costa brings a lifetime of experience, being trained as a third degree black belt under Master Carlos Gracie Jr.

The facilities are impeccably clean and highly accessible (right of the Hynes Convention Center stop on the green line). Co-Owners, Professor Alex and Ashley Proctor are friendly, passionate and live the credo of Gracie-Barra. But don’t be fooled by the smiling faces and infectious laughter. When it comes time to train, they are intense! Easily of the best Jiu-Jitsu gym’s around.

I LOVE this gym! The facility is awesome and Professor Alex Costa is amazing! I am new to Jiu Jitsu, but they do not make me feel like an outsider — I have been welcomed with open (and ready to grapple) arms! It’s an amazing place, and I am excited to continue my instruction under Prof. Alex. From what I have experienced, he has mastered this great balance of patience with students as well as the ability to push us so that we can achieve more. I highly recommend joining Gracie Barra Back Bay!!

    Great gym experience!

Gracie Barra Back Bay is an exceptional gym. For one, its location is awesome ā€“ right on Newbury Street, easily accessible by anyone who can use a Boston train. Second, it hits the perfect balance of friendliness, quality, and intensity. Since the owners teach the classes and run the day to day operations, it has a personal touch that makes you want to go back just for the company. And, of course, the training! How can anyone compare with a Gracie trained professor like Alex? Years of experience in competition and years of experience coaching, along with best fighting pedigree around. This place is up and coming ā€“ Iā€™d definitely recommend it to anyone
