Sensei Carl Young is the founder of Beyond the Belt Martial Arts Center, and his nearly two decades of martial arts experience, passion for teaching, and commitment to his students have combined to make an exceptional martial arts academy. Well versed in a variety of skills including Muay Thai kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, catch wrestling, and Kempo karate, Carl is an exceptional martial artist. Yet anyone who knows Carl recognizes his true passion, which is in always looking for innovative ways to teach young people discipline, character, and wisdom through martial arts.
He is committed to personal ongoing training and the evolution of martial arts. This includes personally training with MMA fighters and improving his own skills in a variety of areas. Yet his greatest ability is in making modern martial arts accessible to kids, teenagers, and adults alike. Among other accolades, he was the 2006 and 2009 EFC Instructor of the Year, a prestigious award given only to instructors who have proven excellence in martial arts technique, and who have demonstrated their outstanding ability in instruction.
Our brand new state of the art facility is near downtown Laconia in the heart of the scenic Lakes Region, and features two training areas for students, a training gym with weight and cardio equipment, and a spacious lobby with stadium seating for parents and friends to watch classes. Our instructors are experienced and passionate about imparting skills and character to students in a welcoming and encouraging environment.
