We signed up our 9-year-old for a 6-month contract. After a few classes, he decided he most emphatically did not want to continue (“it hurt too much”, he didn’t like some of the instructors, etc). By this time we had already paid almost $300 in the upfront fee + 2 months. We were ok with that being already paid, but we wanted to stop the remaining 4 monthly $100 payments.
First, nobody returned my voicemails. Then I finally spoke to someone there who said that someone would call me. That never happened.
Finally I called again and spoke to Erica. She said that because we had signed a contract there was nothing they could do, but I could talk to Education Funding Company, who processes the payments.
I spoke with the correct person there, but he refused to stop the upcoming 4 payments even though I made clear to him that our son would not be going back to Steve Sohn. He also refused to tell me how much of the $100/month they kept (“that is none of your business”).
I well realize that we signed a contract, but we are not asking for the return of the nearly $300 that they received from us before we notified them that we were not going to continue. But for both of these businesses to take close to $700 from us – out of pure greed – when they know that we will not be using their service is disgusting and a deplorable business practice.
