This past Saturday night marked another remarkable moment in the career of UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva when “The Spider” successfully defended his title against fierce rival Chael Sonnen. The two were featured in the main event at UFC 148 and turned in an effort matching the hype preceding the pairing.

Silva came out swinging only to end up on his back from a takedown within ten seconds of the opening bell. From there Sonnen controlled him, raining down punches but never getting by the crafty Brazilian’s defense to score anything significant. The second frame was all Silva. After ducking under a poorly thrown spinning backfist, Silva landed a beautiful knee to Sonnen’s body to set up a finishing sequence of strikes in the ensuing moments.

The card also saw the retirement of Tito Ortiz in a Fight of the Night outing against Forrest Griffin plus some other solid action to boot.
