Lawrence County Mixed Martial Arts Club in Lawrenceville, Illinois, teaches a variety of martial arts disciplines. Jui-Jitsu and Muay Thai are the main focuses of classes but many different types of martial arts disciplines are utilized including Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Judo, Aikido, Hapkido, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Wrestling, Tai Ji, and American Kickboxing.
Instructor Joey Wirth began martial arts traiing at the age of 16. He has extensive training in Jui-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Tae Kwon Do. In Tae Kwon Do he was the Illinois state champion multiple times, winning the triple crown (sparring, form, and weapons) two years in a row. Although his main focus lies with Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai Kickboxing, he has also trained in Judo, Aikido, Tai Ji, American Kickboxing, Hapkido, and Boxing. Some of his training partners include Hook n Shoot middleweight world champion and Jiu-Jitsu standout, Heath Pedigo, as well as UFC veteran Aaron Riley.
