Ferocity Mixed Martial Arts (Ferocity Athletics, LLC) was officially founded in late 2008 by Brian Cunningham and Josh Dreiband, both proponents of the sport and trained in multiple disciplines, after the effort to make MMA legal in Maryland was finally successful.

The idea of forming an MMA Club and Training Facility was thought of as early as February 2008 after Brian was approached by a fighter seeking advanced training. Brian turned to long-time friend and former professional MMA fighter Josh Dreiband to see how they could help. Brian’s experience with freestyle wrestling and amateur boxing along with Josh’s training and expertise in Sambo, MMA, boxing, and submission wrestling made for a lethal combination to help train the young fighter. Josh’s expertise and highly tuned teaching skills coupled with Brian’s experience allowed the fighter to develop a diverse and unparalleled skill set. Their positive experience in helping train that fighter convinced Brian and Josh to move towards forming their own MMA Club and Facility once Maryland legalized it.

It is that vision of truly diverse training in MMA disciplines that forms the core of Ferocity’s MMA training program.

Martial Arts and Fighting Styles

Ferocity MMA provides training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sambo, Muay-Thai and traditional kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Freestyle, submission and Greco Roman wrestling, strength and conditioning as well as basic and advanced self defense.

Ferocity MMA combines these forms of fighting techniques into one, to make you the ultimate secret weapon for any situation. We teach the basics of boxing, kickboxing, takedowns and Jiu-Jitsu and gradually progress your knowledge of the techniques until you’ve mastered them.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Self-Defense
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial arts style invented by the legendary Gracie family that has been used to dominate Mixed Martial Arts competitions around the world.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an art of controlling an opponent through a variety of holds, chokes, throws, joint locks, and strikes. These techniques are useful in self-defense situations.

Hapkido
Hapkido is a dynamic and eclectic Korean martial art. It is a form of self-defense that employs joint locks, pressure points, throws, kicks, and other strikes. Hapkido practitioners train to counter the techniques of other martial arts as well as common unskilled attacks.

Hapkido contains both long and close range fighting techniques, utilizing dynamic kicking and percussive hand strikes at longer ranges and pressure point strikes, jointlocks, or throws at closer fighting distances.

Kickboxing/Muay Thai Kickboxing
Kickboxing refers to the sport of using martial-arts-style kicks and traditional boxing-style punches (jab, cross, hook and uppercut) to defeat an opponent in a similar way to that of standard boxing.

Muay Thai Kickboxing is a form of hard martial art practiced in large parts of the world, including Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.

Sambo
Sambo is a modern martial art, combat sport and self-defense system developed in the Soviet Union that focuses on throwing skills and fast ground work and utilizes a variety of leg locks.

Submission Wrestling
Submission wrestling is the tactic used to submit your opponent. Its focus is on clinch and ground fighting with the aim of obtaining submission.

Tae Kwon Do
“The way of the foot and fist”, Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art that places emphasis on kicking techniques, as the leg is the longest and strongest weapon a martial artist has. Kicks, thus have the greatest potential to execute powerful strikes without successful retaliation.

Many gyms pop out of the woodwork and claim to train guys to get in the cage. This gym actually does that. With an unsure alliance with Clinch Academy, this gym brings together local amateur and pro mma fighters and boxers to bring out the best in each other.

Great gym! Have been training there for about 3 months now. On Feb 4th 2012 I competed in my first NAGA event and placed third. I highly recommend checking this place out.
