Cellar Kickboxing and Martial Arts offers kickboxing classes, fitness kickboxing, brazilian jiu jitsu classes, MMA training, grappling classes and karate classes for recreation and competitive athletes in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the Twin Cities of Minnesota.

Cellar Kickboxing was originally opened in 2002 by Simona and Justin Whiley in the basement below Joe’s Market & Deli, a small convenient store near the University of Minnesota. The training floor at the original gym was only about 400 sq ft in size, had no air conditioning, no windows, and could only occupy about eight students in one class comfortably.

Although small, the secluded gym helped to create a small community where individuals could escape from their hectic lifestyles through kickboxing training. The gym fostered a family-style atmosphere and many life-long friendships were built. In 2006, under new ownership, Cellar Kickboxing re-located to New Brighton and began offering additional martial arts programs including kickboxing, jiu jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts and youth karate. Although no longer located in “the Cellar”, we wish to always remember the place and people that gave us our start.

Cellar Kickboxing and Martial Arts offers a brand new, safe, clean, and spacious facility with an 800 sq ft padded training floor, regulation size boxing ring, 125 sq ft heavy bag area, and seating area for parents to observe class. Our facility has two private changing rooms along with men’s and women’s bathrooms. In our spacious lobby you can sit back and relax while your child practices, or check out our pro-shop where we carry all the apparel and equipment needed for class. During class, younger siblings may be entertained by watching one of several children’s movies found in our lobby.

Cellar Kickboxing and Martial Arts offers everything you could ever need to start your amateur or professional MMA career. The classes are affordable and their instructors are very knowledgeable.

To top it off, the gym will be moving to a bigger and better location in July 2009. The new gym will be closer to campus and just blocks away from the new stadium! I haven’t seen the new place yet, but I hear it will be 3x the size!
